Happy Publication Day Event Horizon

It wasn’t until reading the Wikipedia page for the movie, Never on Sunday, did I realize two modern great works of Greek literature and cinema tackle this theme of clash of intellectualism and zest for life between characters: this movie, and Zorba the Greek. If Zorba showed bookworm writer how to live a little by book’s end, Ilya showed the intellectual man trying to save her from a life of sex work a lesson too: how she was content in her life and the circle of men she took when she pleased. Sundays were reserved not for THAT activity, but hosting house parties of sorts for this circle around her.

A strange way to introduce that my novel, Event Horizon, is officially published today. Except that it IS Sunday, not a traditional publishing day.

This isn’t a traditional book.

And though my line of work is different than Ilya’s, my zest for life and enjoyment of human sexuality is shared, paired with the intellectualism of her suitor, Homer Thrace. And that’s what you’ll find in this book. A wedding of intellectualism of the human condition, of astrophysical phenomena, the thirst of human sexuality, the hearts that go along, and down, with it.

You can hop to our landing page for the long thought out descriptions about what this book is about, and the impressive folks who have given their honest, glowing reviews. In this heartfelt post, I’ll share that Event Horizon is a collage of an experience that takes you down themes of what happens when we cross the line of no return. If you’re having trouble finishing longer works, this book will offer you that break in pace by giving you short pieces with colorful art, sometimes longer pieces, and surprising mediums. It offers variety, so you won’t get bored. By the end you’ve read a full length book, and maybe this will help jump your life back (or newly) into reading novels or other longer works. Short story collections can do that. This one does more.

Is it science fiction? Yes.

Is it literary fiction? Most certainly.

Is it Latinxfuturism? Appears so! You will see a lot of Nuyorico/Puerto Rico.

Is it women’s fiction? That, heck yes.

But wait, what shelf? Prose, comics? Ah, see, in quantum physics a particle can’t be located with certainty in any point in space, but in all probability, shelve the book in prose. Except when it’s not in prose.

But is it also an art book? There’s so much art in here… Get it, now?

Congratulations to all the people who made this book possible with me. To all the artists whose works shine in these pages. To my cousin Aaron Guzman (book designer, illustrator of so much in this book, curator) who told me to do a collection of my works, and worked with me to get our community of art out in the process. To Magnus Arts artists and Cyrus’ art community that lended itself to form Janus Point Press. Yes, this book is an in-house supermassive endeavor. And huge thank you to the Kickstarter community who did an epic preorder campaign for the book.
